At Soft Landing Missoula, we cherish the strength of our community connections in creating a warm and welcoming environment for refugees and immigrants. Our outreach efforts center on educating, engaging, and inspiring Missoula residents to actively participate in building a diverse and inclusive city.
Public Events
Throughout the year, we organize and participate in a variety of public events that celebrate the refugees and immigrants in our community. Our flagship event, “Stories of Home,” provides a platform for newcomers to share their experiences through powerful storytelling. We also participate in Welcoming Week, a series of events that bring together immigrants, refugees, and longtime residents to share culture and experiences. These gatherings not only showcase the resilience and talents of our new neighbors but also create opportunities for meaningful connections among all Missoula residents.
Educational Outreach
Our educational initiatives extend into schools and institutions across Missoula, promoting understanding and support. We offer classroom presentations that provide insights into refugee experiences and our work, ranging from grade schools to university classes. Additionally, we provide resources and training for educators, including cultural competency workshops, to help create inclusive learning environments. These efforts aim to foster empathy, broaden perspectives, and equip the next generation with the tools to build a more welcoming community.
Advocacy
Soft Landing Missoula is committed to advocating for the rights, needs, and dignity of refugees and immigrants at local, state, and national levels. We build coalitions like Montana Immigrant and Refugee Advocates (MIRA) to address state-level issues, including participation in legislative processes when necessary. Our involvement in the Hello Neighbor Network allows us to connect with similar organizations nationwide, sharing best practices and working collectively to enhance welcoming efforts across the United States. Through these partnerships, we strive to create a more inclusive society that recognizes the value and contributions of all its members.
